The inspiration for “Pas de Duex” arose out of an image I saw Kwan Yin, Boddhisattva of Compassion, where she is pouring “The Water of Compassion” into the Dragon’s mouth, while
standing on him. In his mouth was “The Wish-Fulfilling Gem”.
I realized in the making of this piece, as never before, that our troubles, mostly our conditioned patterns of reaction to life, are the very invitations to the way of developing a more integrated, authentic and useful life. When I began bringing the figure to life with the clay I found they wanted to be entwined, as though in a dance, one of mutual support, neither one over the other as in triumph or superiority.
